Syllabus


Classroom Rules:
  1. No excuses.
  2. Respect everyone all the time.
  3. Respect the content of the class.
  4. Come to my class prepared (10%/day for late work).
  5. Cross the threshold before the bell rings.
  6. MOST IMPORTANTLY: It is my right to do my job. It is your (and your peers’) right to learn. Therefore, anything that might keep these from happening is punishable.
*If you do not follow the rules, you will lose points on your daily grade.

Rules for writing:
  1. Each day a writing assignment is late you will lose 10%.  Remember rule #1 under classroom rules.
  2. Always be respectful toward fellow authors. Work will often be shared in class, so commentary aside from constructive criticism will be punishable. Snide remarks can have a lifelong impact on writers.
  3. Always type writing assignments via Google Docs (http://documents.google.com).  It will save every few seconds.
  4. Follow MLA guidelines for ALL assignments.
  5. You are responsible for keeping up with your journal (bell ringer). At any time, I can ask for your journals. If you miss a day, ask a classmate the assignment.

Classroom Management:
Mature behavior is expected at all times. Disrespect of any kind will not be tolerated. Any discipline problems will be handled by one or more of the following:
1st offense: verbal warning
2nd offense: teacher/student conference
3rd offense: referral to Mrs.Crump
**I reserve the right to skip steps if the inappropriate action warrants such punishment.

Makeup Work:
Excused absent- For daily work, you will have the same amount of days you are out to make up the work.
Unexcused absence-I will determine whether you are to make it up or not .

The Fine Print:
*I do not tolerate cheating in any form. (See definition below.)

I will do whatever it takes to help you understand the content in this class.
If you are willing to put forth the effort to learn it, I will be willing to find a way to teach it in a way you understand.

  1. The lights are shining bright, the floor is freshly waxed, and the gym is huge. The sound of balls bouncing and players yelling fills the arena. The words “Ole Miss” is at the center of the court in big red cursive writing. Our team walks down from the stands looking out onto the biggest court any of us has ever seen. I can’t believe we were about to play in this gym.
    This experience at Ole Miss taught me that I could go further in life and go to college. I came to realize that there’s more than just Walker County out there and I want to explore everything I can. Even if it’s not playing basketball there are other opportunities out there for me. From what I experienced at Ole Miss, the college life would be an incredible experience for me. It would also open many doors for me and my future would be bright.
