Thurs. August 29



1.       Do you think a person is born evil? Or do you think evil is created by circumstances? Explain. Provide an example. 

2.       What do you consider to be a modern-day monster? Explain your answer. Provide at least 2 examples and explanations.

3.       Based on your reading, what are the heroic codes of the Anglo-Saxon period? Do you feel these are the same as our world today? How so? If not, how have they changed?

4.       Discuss the statement, “Your reputation precedes you.” How does this apply to your own life? How important is a person’s reputation to his future? How can a person’s reputation be created based on social media sites?

5.       List 5 qualities that constitute a hero.  Explain why each quality makes that person heroic.  Which should be held in high regard: physical achievements, intellectual attributes, or moral qualities? Defend your answer.

BR: Pronoun, Adjective, and Noun Practice. Students will complete the first page in the Language Workbook.

Agenda:

-Students will take the Benchmark pre-test.
·        - Teacher will review the Conclusion paragraph with components and examples. Students will continue writing the Body Paragraphs and conclusion in library.
·         -If time allows, students will be divided into groups and will answer the questions given to them regarding the Anglo-Saxon period.

  • Literature: 1st Block: Introduction to the Anglo-Saxon period- Students will view a Viking video, paying close attention to the characteristics of the group. Teacher will show a map of Great Britain explain the time period and the various groups who invaded Europe during that time.
  •  4th Block will continue watching a clip of the Viking video where left off from the day before. 
  • Research: Students will be divided into groups and will answer the questions given to them regarding the Anglo-Saxon period.  Packet due Wednesday.

  • ·Grammar pages 56-57 Ex. 3 “Pronouns” 
  •   Teacher will introduce the Body Paragraph of the descriptive essay, showing examples. Students will write the body paragraphs in class today and tomorrow. (1st block will also be introduced to the Introductory Paragraph.)
