Macbeth Discussion Question

Answer the following question by commenting below:

What reason does Macbeth give the Murderers for wanting Banquo killed? What reason does he give for not doing it himself?

  1. He thinks that the longer Banquo lives, the longer his nightmares and fears of suspicion will persist.
    Macbeth states that they have mutual friends that he does not want to lose if he killed Banquo himself.

  2. His reasons he wanted to kill banquo was becasue, banquo suspected him. Also, his sons where going to take his throne. The reason that he didn't kill himself is because, they had mutual friends!

  4. Because macbeth is trying to keep himself covered up to make it seem as tho Macbeth has nothing to do with the murder if the king therefore Macbeth has hired murders to kill those who suspect Macbeth

  9. Banquo suspects Macbeth of murdering the king and his sons are destined to take the throne. The reason he can't kill him himself is because they have mutual friends.

  10. Macbeth says he will not kill Banquo because he and Banquo have mutual friends, and Macbeth does not want to kill and everyone find out and lose them as allies.

  13. Macbeth tells the murders that for every second that Banquo is alive that Macbeth is in danger of being found out. He claims that he cannot murder Banquo because they have common friends.

  14. He thinks that if he kills him that he will have a clear conscious also because Banquo suspects that Macbeth killed the king. Also Banquo's sons are the heirs to the throne.

  15. Macbeth believes that if Banquo is dead then his conscience will be clear, and Banquo's "sons" will not be able to take his throne. Of course, however, he cannot do the deed himself because he doesn't want it to get in the way of relationships that are mutual between Banquo and Macbeth.

  16. His reasons for wanting to murder Banquo was because Banquo suspected Macbeth for killing the king. Also Banquo's sons were in line after Macbeth to be king.
